    Day One, Glade Wharf to Clinton Hut

    The Milford track is a four day walk through stunning native bush from Glade Wharf at the end of Lake Te Anau through to Sandfly Point around 20 minutes from Milford sound.

    After the boat journey from Te Anau Downs to Glade Wharf you take a comfortable stroll through the beech forest along the banks of the Clinton River to Clinton Hut, this is where you need to spend the first night as the second hut is over 6 hours walk away at the Mintaro hut.

    Day Two, Clinton Hut to Mintaro Hut

    The walk from Clinton Hut to Mintaro is around six hours,there is a steady climb that takes you along the Clinton River to its source, Lake Mintaro, at the base of the famous Mackinnon Pass. Past Hirere Falls you will get your first glimpse of Mackinnon Pass and the amazing Pompolona ice field.

    You'll be overshadowed by the sheer size of the stone and rock towering above you on either side as you stroll up the Clinton valley, and will go through changing vegetation as you move higher towards Mintaro Hut.

    Day Three, Mintaro to Dumpling Hut

    Mintaro to Dumpling Hut takes around seven hours of walking this part of the track takes you over the highest point on the walk the Mackinnon Pass from here you will get fantastic views of Lake Mintaro and the clinton canyon, from the summit of Mackinnon Pass there is a steep decent down the mountain to the valley below.

    There are two day shelters located down this side of the mountain should you get caught out with the weather, you will pass a few water falls along the Burn River then on to Dumpling Hut for the end of day three.

    Day Four, Dumpling Hut to track end Sandfly Point

    Day four is around six hours of walking, from Dumpling Hut, you'll follow the Arthur River, Advancing along the track, you will come to the sensational Mackay water falls and the charming Bell Rock. before spending the last 3 km on a smooth, wide track built by a jail inmates in around 1890 and 1892.

    A short boat ride from Sandfly Point back to the Milford marina will take you to your voyage's end. During the tramping season you need to book every hut in advance before setting of on the walk.
