Explore The Many Fantastic Walking Tracks Available Through Out New Zealand Including The Nine Great Walks.

    Cascade To Hakarimata Summit

    Hakarimata Walk2

This walking track is part of the Hakarimata reserve incorporating three tracks that eventually reach the Hakarimata summit from three different points, this section of the walk starts on Waingaro rd around ten minutes south of Ngaruawahia in the Waikato.

The start of the track is a 15 minute walk along a wetlands track and dont be put off by the first part of the walk, which is rarther boring along a formed muddy road, the track starts at the picnic area beside the creek and the cascades is around a 5 minute walk into the bush, a small waterfall cascading down the rocks, you need to return back to the main walking track to head up to the summit.

Crossing the bridge over the creek the track takes you along the creek and the elevation starts to climb gently for around 10 minutes, and if you think great there are no steps like the water works track the next steep acsent will tell you other wise, here you leave the creek side and the relentless steps start, these carry on for around the one hour mark untill you level out at the top of the ranges.

The sun vanishes for the most of this walk as you are in thick native bush and the canopy blocks out most of the light, the track follows the ridge line and there are glimpses of the bush clad valley on one side and the greater waikato on the other, once you reach the peak the walking gets a little easier as you wind around the side of the mountain until you reach the Hakarimata summit where it joins the water works track.

The walk to the summit is around two and a half hours and you can return down the Hakarimata water works track to Brownlee av around 30 minutes then you would need to walk back along the road to the Waingaro carpark or return back the way you arrived.
