Scandrett Regional Park

Mahurangi4

This awsome little peninsula is just past Algies Bay east of Warkworth and located on the north east tip of the Mahurangi Peninsula. In 1998, the property was purchased by the ARC for use as a regional park.

At the time of purchase, there was a near complete collection of farm buildings dating from the 1880s or earlier, including the homestead, a barn, boatshed, cow shed, implement shed, tractor shed and a henhouse / calf shed. In the past, whenever a farm has been purchased for use as a regional park, there has been a tendency for the old farm buildings to be demolished except for the farmhouse. In the case of Scandtrett's farm, however, the heritage division of the ARC saw all the buildings retained and preserved.

There are a few fishing spots around this area that can be accessed on foot or by a kayak launched of one off the beaches and there are little bays to explore all over the place.

Three 40s-style baches were also restored for rental. Two had been previously owned by Geoff Moon and the family of Trelise Cooper. From the carpark there is a easy walk out through farmland on the southern side of the peninsula along high clifftops untill you reach the tip at the end, here you can desend back down to water level, at low tide there is a large expanse of low lying rock that forms a shelf all the way back to the car park.

You can carry on walking along the beach past the car park at Scandretts Bay and around the next point to Goldsworthy Bay some of this land is private but keep to the beach and you will be fine.
