Ruapuke Beach Waikato

As with most West Coast beaches Ruapuke beach is wild and remote there are two ways of getting to Ruapuke the first is from Raglan and the second way is driving around Mount Karioi on the Ruapuke road.

Driving from the Raglan side is the most scenic as it winds around mount Karioi and there are some fantastic views out over the wild west coast, but the road is unsealed and winds in and out of the terrain the road is also extremely narrow and corrogated.

Ruapuke Beach road is sealed to within a few kms of the beach, there are some stunning views out over the rolling Waikato country side and at a few high points along the road Aotea harbor is visable in the distance.

There is two access points to the beach the first is Ruapuke Beach road a few kms past where the seal ends, this is a one lane access road but stops short of the beach by a few hundred meters although the walk is easy out to the beach and you need to cross a small stream as well.

The second access is further along the unsealed road and right before Papanui Point is Swann Access road this road is steep single lane and very rough you need to check no one is coming up the road before you go down as there is no where to pull over, here you can walk along the rocks on the fall of the tide or stroll along the beach to a small stream that emerges onto the sand.

Back on the Whaanga road a few kms further on there is a dirt road on the left hand side you can park here and walk out to the Papanui Point there are stunning views of the coast line here and you can walk right out to the edge of the cliffs there are also views back to mount Karioi.
