Omaha Beach To Cape Rodney

You can start this kayak trip at Omaha boat ramp off Omaha drive or from the other side, if you start at Omaha boat ramp on the out going tide you will get a free lift on the current which really races through here.Heading through the harbour mouth you will see the start of Ti Point on your left, there is a walking track that starts here from the end of Ti Point road, but the access is off leigh road then on to Ti Point road around the other side of the harbour, the track takes you out to Ti Point Reserve at the end of the point.

Back in the kayak as you near the point there is a big pillar of rock that rises out of the water all the land behind is the reserve, rounding the point you are in Torkington Bay, there is a secluded beach here. Heading further on to the island you are at Mathesons bay and the start of Cape Rodney that extends all the way around to Goat Island. You are now below the town of Leigh and will soon come to Leigh Harbour, Which is a small but interesting place to have a look into, there are little sandy beaches and bays etc to explore around.

Just outside the harbour is Panetiki Island you can access here from the mainland but this is all private property, now it is only a short trip out to the end of the cape, if you have transport you could carry on around the point which is where the marine reserve starts and head to Goat Island which is part of the reserve it is a fair way around the cape though to the other side.
