Long Bay Coastal Walk3

Long Bay is a protected Marine Reserve that was established in 1995 and is located around thirty kms north east of the Auckland cbd, the land surrounding the marine reserve is a Regional Park, the park offers a large range of activities for visitors and is a popular destination in the summer time.

The regional park follows a stunning sandy beach and high cliff tops that stretches from Long Bay north to Okura inlet at the start of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, the beach is popular with swimmers and water sports, and is a great place for the whole family to enjoy.

A stunning coastal walkway starts at the northern end of the regional park, the track is mostly gravel road with open farmland sections and follows the coastline high above the water, there are sections of the track that drop down to water level allowing access to the sandy beach below, at low tide you can walk along the entire beach.

The walkway takes you around the headland to Okura Estuary and from here you get fantastic views of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula and right out to Rangitoto Island and the Hauraki Gulf, the ocean views from the cliff top are stunning on a good day, the walk takes around two and a half hours return and is five kms long.
