The Waikato region is the life blood of farming in the central North Island. To the east we have Tauranga and there beautiful harbour and waterfront propertys of Mount Maunganui and the magnificent Matakana Island, which is only accesible by boat, the inner harbour is a fantastic place to explore in a kayak in the summer months, and there are endless little estuaries and sandy bays all over this area just waiting for you to explore, and the fishing is not to bad either.
To the south there is the majestic Lake Taupo, you cannot really miss lake Taupo on your journey south, as it is just an awsome place to visit. The Taupo region is the playground of the Central North Island. The drive down through Tokoroa forrest to Lake Taupo is a scenic wonder as there are lakes abound, and the waikato river to explore and the drive through the forrest before the lake is stunning.
Along the eastern shore line is the world famous trout fishing rivers of the Waitahanui, Tauranga taupo and The Tongariro rivers the last river the most famous of all and is known all over the world as a pristine fly fishing destination. The Tongariro is also our favorite trout river, we have walked along these banks a fair few times now, every time we come back here the river looks totaly different as the winter floods change the coarse of the river.
To the east we have Rotorua the mountain bike capital of the north island and a great adventure playground, there are mountain bike parks dotted through this area and there is some awsome single track through the forests around here.
