    Ninety Mile Beach

    The beach is a public road so you can drive your car on the beach a four x four is recommended though as the sand can be soft, the same rules apply as driving on a normal public road. Ahipara is the start of the southern end of Ninety mile beach and Te Paki stream is the northern end, the beach is actually only 55 miles long

    Waitangi Treaty Grounds

    Located just north of Paihia in the bay of islands, the grounds are the site of the treaty of Waitangi signing between the british crown and the Maori tribes, the grounds are an historic site, and you can walk around by your self or go with a guided tour.

    Cape Brett  

    Located in the bay of islands Cape Brett is an amazing peninsula that encompasses the bay of islands there are numerous boat charters and guided tours that you can take and the scenery on the boat trip out to the hole in the rock is just spectacular.

    The Poor Knights Islands

    Located of the east coast out from Tutukaka Harbour the Poor Knights are a marine reserve, if you are a scuba diver you cannot miss this trip as the under water marine scape is amazing, the reserve was established in 1981 and covering an area of around 2400 ha, is administered by the Department of Conservation. the reserve surrounds the Poor Knights Islands and adjacent rocks. It is one of the worlds ten most popular sites for diving. there are dive trips and guided tours regularly leaving from Tutukaka.

    Waipoua Forest

    The forest, located on the west coast of the Northland just south of the Hokianga Harbour, the forest is associated with the neighbouring Waima and Mataraua Forests and is one of the last great stands of Native Kauri forests left in the far north.

    The Northland Kauri Museum

    The museum is located in the town of Matakohe south of the Waipoua forest in the far north, the museum tells a story of the Kauri milling days which nearly wiped out most of the kauri forests in northland.

    The Mission house Kerikeri

     Located in Kerikeri the mission house was completed in 1822 as part of the Kerikeri Mission Station by the Church Missionary Society, and is New Zealand's oldest surviving building. It is sometimes known as Kemp house and is part of New Zealand history .

    The Cape Reinga Lighthouse

    The lighthouse is located at Cape Reinga in Northland and is as far as you can go, this is the northern end of New Zealand although not the most northerly point the most northerly point belongs to North Cape. The light house is owned and operated by Maritime New Zealand. The lighthouse is a New Zealand icon and a popular tourist destination although the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, there are walking tracks down to the beach below the light house and access to Cape Maria Van Diemen to the right of the light house.

    There are hundreds of other features and areas to visit in northland and all depends on the amount of time you have and your own interests, but the far north is an amazing place to visit any time of the year.
