Port Jackson is located at the most northerly point on the Coromandel Peninsula the area is popular for fishing both from the rocks and from boats that can be launched from the beautiful sandy beach.
You can access Port Jackson from the western side of the peninsula by following the coastline, you can also get access from the eastern side by crossing over the peninsula.
There is a great camping ground located at Port Jackson this camp is past Fantail Bay a few kms and on DOC land so you cannot take any animals dogs or cats as this is a reserve for endangered wildlife.
The port Jackson camp offers endless views out across the gulf to Great Barrier Island and is alot larger than Fantail Bay so can accommodate a larger crowd during the holiday season as with the other camp grounds around here there is always room in the off season.
There are alot of activities for the whole family to enjoy at Port Jackson, you can fish off the sandy beach right in front of the camp, or go for a walk to the headland at both ends of the beach this area is a great place to explore and a great place for a relaxing holiday, there are no shops out at the end of the peninsula you need to bring all supplies with you the nearest shop is back at Colville down the coast.
