Piha Beach

Piha Beach

Piha is the most well known of any beaches in New Zealand more so for surfing than any thing else and piha rescue, the place certainly deserves respect as the west coast is known for strong under tows and large surf not a place to swim out side of the flags.

The view from the top look out, just as you start decending down the hill is just breath taking on a clear day, when you get to the bottom of the hill turn left takes you to the main beach with the life guard station and a cafe this where you are to swim when the life guards are on duty.

There is limited parking here on weekends, back at the bottom of the hill and going straight ahead takes you to the longest section of piha beach located to the right of Lion rock and even along here in summer the car parks fill up quick so be in early or miss out, there are endless tracks through the bush around here so go exploring or a stroll along the beach or around the rocks you will not be disappointed with a day out on the west coast.
