 Hakarimata Northern Look out2

This part of the Hakarimata walking tracks start at the end of Parker Road, just north from Ngaruawahia in the Waikato, this is the third of three tracks that lead to the Hakarimata summit and this is also the longest of the three, the other two are the Waterworks Track and the Cascades Track.

From Parker rd the track starts up the usual endless steps like the other tracks although not as extreme as the waterworks track, the track from here to the lookout is in good condition and no mud, around 10 minutes into the walk you will arrive at a junction and there are two choices right is a loop track via the Kauri Grove straight ahead is the main track to the upper lookout.

The Kauri Grove option takes around 35 minutes of easy walking to the giant Kauri tree and a stunning view into the valley and beautiful native bush, the Kauri Grove is 5 minutes further on and is plantation of young Kauri trees and more stunning views down into the valley.

From the Kauri Grove the steps are back for around a 20 minute accent to the junction with the main track, then up to the main lookout which is a large open area looking down onto Huntly and the Waikato River and the views are stunning out across the landscape, you need to ensure there is not going to be any fog which Waikato is known for or you will not see anything.

From the main lookout and back down the track a little is the main track to Hakarimata summit lookout and the 1400 steps down to Brownlee Ave how ever this is more than six hrs of walking away, there is another lookout point around twenty minutes walk from the first lookout, this part of the track is for seasoned trampers as the track is narrow and rough.
