Te Arai Point

‚ÄčTe Arai Point is a regional reserve located south of Mangawhai around 2hrs north of Auckland city. The Te Arai point turn off is on the road to Mangawhai heads and the drive out to the reserve is on a bumpy and dusty road the reserve is around 50 hectares in size.

There is ample parking at the reserve and does not get to crowded the beach to the left hand side of the rocks is a great place to swim and with the right wind conditions is also a great place to surf, there is a short walking track that takes you over the top of the headland and offers a fantastic view south down to Pakiri beach and north to Mangawahi beach, you can access the southern beach here as well although the walk is not easy the southern beach is deserted most of the time.

There is a camping ground located at Te Arai beach which has no facilities there is fee to stay here, and is only open to self contained caravans and self contained vehicles up to 8 meters in length, there are no provisions for tents and camper vans which are prohibited from the grounds, and a maximum of 3 nights stay only, no dogs are permitted on the beach at all times as the area is a protected reserve.

Te Arai point is well worth a visit the beach is long and secluded and there is plenty of room for swimmers and surfers, there are walking tracks around the headland and also walking tracks through the bush reserve and a forest area by the southern beach so there is plenty to do there on your visit.
